DESIGNER'S NOTES
This classic silver plated bangle featuring a design typical of those seen in Central America in areas formerly part of the Meso-American Aztec territory.
The Aztec civilisation of central Mexico, flourishing between 1300 and 1521, was a complex network of ethnic groups including the Mexica, Tepanecs, and Acolhua. Centered on the sprawling city of Tenochtitlan, the Aztecs developed sophisticated agricultural systems, notably chinampas, which transformed marshland into fertile plots.
Their society combined military prowess with intricate religious practice, venerating deities such as Huitzilopochtli and Quetzalcoatl through ritual, sacrifice, and calendrical ceremonies. Artisans produced vibrant textiles, ceramics, and metalwork, embedding cosmology and status into everyday objects.
Trade networks extended across Mesoamerica, facilitating the exchange of cacao, obsidian, and precious feathers. Linguistically and culturally diverse, these groups maintained local traditions while contributing to a shared imperial identity, reflecting ingenuity, adaptability, and enduring influence on subsequent Mexican culture.
