1. THE VAN WIJK KNOT

This knot works well with formal outfits. However, it can also be used to create a nice laid back look – suitable for smart casual events or formal wear events with a relaxed edge.

HERE's HOW TO DO IT

  1. Start with the wide end on your right and the narrow end on your left.
  2. Cross the wide end over the narrow end, forming an X.
  3. Wrap the wide end behind the narrow end from right to left.
  4. Bring the wide end up and over the knot from left to right.
  5. Wrap the wide end around the front of the knot from right to left, creating a loop on the right side.
  6. Pass the wide end behind the knot and bring it to the front from left to right.
  7. Tuck the wide end through the loop on the right side.
  8. Wrap the wide end around the knot from right to left again, creating a loop on the left side.
  9. Pass the wide end behind the knot and bring it to the front from left to right.
  10. Tuck the wide end through the loop on the left side.
  11. Adjust the knot by holding the narrow end and sliding the knot up or down until it reaches your collar.
  12. Ensure the knot is symmetrical and the tie hangs at the desired length.
