DESIGNER'S NOTES
The scarab beetle is a powerful symbol rooted in ancient Egyptian mythology, representing rebirth, transformation, and protection.
Modelled after the dung beetle, which rolls balls of dung across the ground, Egyptians saw a parallel with the sun god Ra rolling the sun across the sky each day. The scarab became a symbol of the sun, creation, and the cycle of life and death.
Scarabs were often used as amulets, seals, and burial items, believed to guide and safeguard souls through the afterlife. The beetle’s life cycle, from egg to larva to beetle, embodied regeneration and eternal life, reinforcing its link to resurrection.
Today, the scarab retains spiritual associations, symbolising resilience, change, and self-renewal. In modern contexts, it often conveys mystical or esoteric meanings, bridging the ancient world with contemporary interpretations of inner transformation and awakening.
STYLING
The pendant is a few centimetres in diameter with a 450mm chain, so style outside high necklines, or against the skin with lower necklines. Wear with jewellery of similar scale, like the matching Egyptian Scarab Bangle or a simple silver bracelet.
