DESIGNER'S NOTES

A blue Fox & Chave silk tie featuring a classical scallop pattern often seen in the work of Peter Carl Fabergé, the jeweller to the Imperial Russian Tsars.

The scallop pattern, often referred to as guilloché engraving, is a hallmark of Fabergé’s legendary enamelling technique. Craftsmen used a manual lathe to engrave precise, overlapping wave or scale-like motifs onto a metal surface, usually gold or silver.

Once engraved, layers of translucent coloured enamel were applied and fired. This created a shimmering, kinetic effect where light dances across the undulating scallops, giving the object a sense of depth and liquid brilliance unmatched in decorative arts.
