DESIGNER'S NOTES
A unique Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf of Paul Klee’s 1938 masterpiece entitled Reicher Hafen, Bild einer Reise which translates in English to Rich Port, Picture of a Journey.
Reicher Hafen, Bild einer Reise represents the pinnacle of his late-period stylistic evolution while in Swiss exile. Executed in oil and tempera on paper mounted to coarse burlap, the work utilizes a weathered, mural-like texture that grounds its abstract vocabulary. Klee employs heavy, black gestural signs resembling stenographic ciphers to represent a bustling maritime harbor. These dark symbols float atop a rhythmic mosaic of simple shapes in primary colours, balancing structural weight with atmospheric light.
Created after Klee was labeled a 'degenerate' artist by the Nazi regime, the title Rich Port poignantly suggests a thematic sanctuary. This evocative synthesis of writing and drawing resides permanently within the Kunstmuseum Basel in Switzerland.
