DESIGNER'S NOTES
A superb Fox & Chave habotai silk scarf with a design of stylised peacock feathers created as a variation of a marbling print technique primarily used in book binding.
The peacock technique of marbling uses fluid mechanics to create a stylised visual rhythm evocative of the feathers of the resplendent bird. Originating in nineteenth-century Europe, artisans would create concentric colour drops on a viscous bath, stretching them into narrow ribbons with a primary comb. A specialised rake featuring opposing teeth is then drawn through the floating pigments, fanning the ribbons into interlocking, teardrop-shaped plumes while preserving each central spot as a distinct feather eye.
Designed primarily for book endpapers and decorative covers, this process abstracts natural plumage into repeating, cellular forms and bridges fine craftsmanship and graphic geometry, converting fluid dynamics into a mesmerising pattern.
STYLING
A Fox & Chave habotai silk scarf can be worn with the classic knot style or a pussycat bow. You can even create a shawl effect by knotting two scarves together behind your neck and allowing them to drape over your shoulders.
