DESIGNER'S NOTES

This Fox & Chave silk tie in various autumnal shades is brim full of history, the history of Scotland.

It features elements from the painted frieze in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery (1897-98) by William Brassey Hole (1846-1917) that sits above the columns of the Great Hall. Completed in 1898, it spans 131 feet and depicts 155 Scottish historical figures. Hole’s masterpiece showcases the nation's cultural, intellectual, and political luminaries, illustrating its rich heritage through meticulously crafted relief sculptures.

Examples of some of the figures in the chronology include; Robert the Bruce, William Wallace, Sir Walter Scott, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Mary Queen of Scots, James VI of Scotland (I of England), John Knox, Adam Smith, David Hume, Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Carlyle, Robert Burns and James Watt.
