DESIGNER'S NOTES
A subtle but colourful Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf featuring a delicate floral design in prominent blues and reds over an ivory ground.
This design is a sophisticated blend of Eastern floral motifs and Western book arts. Its pattern is a direct homage to the 16th-century illuminated borders found in luxury prayer books and herbals, which often featured all-over floral vines to frame sacred text.
The design captures the high-Renaissance fascination with Ottoman Iznik ceramics; the vibrant cobalt blue rosettes, tomato-red carnations, and emerald-green Saz leaves are hallmark Turkish influences that traveled via trade routes into European studios.
By translating these 'Orientalist' ceramic glazes onto a cream, parchment-like background, the artist created a bridge between the precision of Persian courtly art and the delicate hand-painted aesthetics of European manuscript illumination.
