DESIGNER'S NOTES

A floral Fox & Chave crêpe de Chine silk scarf a variety of colours featuring quotes from the works of the English actor and playwright William Shakespeare (1564-1616)

The border of the scarf features the passage;

'I know a bank where the wild thyme blows, Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows, Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine, With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine,'

- Oberon from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Act 2, Scene 1.

In this scene Oberon is describing the bower, a leafy shelter,  where Titania, the Fairy Queen, sleeps. It’s one of Shakespeare’s most sensory-heavy passages, pulling in the scent of the roses, the sight of the nodding violets. Musk-roses are a large, climbing rose known for its heavy, sweet scent, while Eglantine, also known as Sweetbriar, is a wild rose with fragrant leaves that smell like apples.
