DESIGNER'S NOTES

A woven Fox & Chave silk tie with a repeat pattern of the fleur-de-lis motif over a bright cerise ground.

The fleur-de-lis, a stylised lily, originated as a symbol of purity and divine right, closely associated with the Virgin Mary. It became emblematic of French royalty during the 12th century, first appearing on the seal of Louis VII. Its three petals are thought to represent faith, wisdom, and chivalry, or alternatively, the Holy Trinity.

Though commonly linked to France, it also appears in the heraldry of Florence, Bosnia, and even Scouting organisations, and may have earlier roots in Mesopotamian art, where similar motifs represented fertility and kingship.

Some scholars suggest the symbol’s adoption in Europe was influenced by contact with the Islamic world during the Crusades, blending sacred imagery with dynastic ambition and visual simplicity.

STYLING

A Fox & Chave silk tie looks best tied in a classic Windsor or half-Windsor knot and worn with a collar style of your choosing. Cutaway or spread collars offer the greatest opportunity to display the detail of your unique silk tie design.
