Iznik ceramics emerged during the fifteenth century in the Anatolian town of İznik, northwestern Turkey, which became the Ottoman Empire’s premier pottery center. Located near vital clay deposits and timber supplies, the town produced brilliantly glazed stonepaste wares for imperial palaces and mosques.

The style is renowned for its vibrant palette, initially cobalt blue and turquoise, later expanding to include a striking, raised bole red. Key visual elements feature stylised floral motifs, including elegant tulips (symbolising the divine), carnations, hyacinths, and trailing saz leaves. These intricate patterns defined Ottoman decorative art and profoundly influenced European ceramic design.
