DESIGNER'S NOTES

A floral Fox & Chave habotai silk scarf with elements in blue and green after an illustrative work by Jane Loudon featured as plate 26 in 'The Ladies' Flower Garden', published 1842.

This design features blooms commonly known as Morning Glory from the family Convolvulaceae.

Jane Loudon (1807–1858) was initially a science-fiction novelist and the writer of The Mummy!, (1827), before becoming a pioneering English writer and botanical illustrator, after marrying horticulturist John Claudius Loudon, and was best known for popularising horticulture among Victorian women.

Her most influential works include The Ladies’ Flower-Garden series and Gardening for Ladies (1840), which combined accessible language with beautifully hand-coloured illustrations. These books made gardening approachable for middle-class women and helped reshape domestic roles through education and art. 

STYLING
