Morris Blackthorn Silk Tie

DESIGNER'S NOTES

This Fox & Chave silk tie features a pattern entitled 'Blackthorn' originally designed for wallpaper by J.H. Dearle on behalf of the Morris Co. in 1892.

The design is composed of intricate and stylised depictions of blackthorn branches and blossoms in a harmonious blend of organic elements, that showcase the craftsmanship and artistic principles championed by Morris and his associates as leaders in the Arts & Crafts movement.

Blackthorn provides important habitat and food for a variety of wildlife species. Birds, such as thrushes and blackbirds, feed on the fruits, while small mammals use the dense thorny thickets for shelter and protection. This also provides effective barriers for livestock which offers ecological benefits in minimising building materials and supporting biodiversity.
