DESIGNER'S NOTES
A Fox & Chave silk pocket square featuring the design Fruit by William Morris (1834-1896) in a cream colour way.
Fruit (1864), also known as Pomegranate, is one of William Morris’s earliest and most celebrated textile designs, exemplifying the Arts and Crafts movement’s rejection of industrial uniformity.
The pattern features densely interwoven foliage, curling branches, and ripe pomegranates, arranged in a rhythmic, almost musical repeat. Its flattened perspective and stylised naturalism draw from medieval tapestries and Persian textiles, reflecting Morris’s belief that ornament should be both decorative and morally enriching.
he design embodies his ideal of harmony between nature, labour, and beauty, asserting that everyday objects deserved the same artistic care as fine art.
