DESIGNER'S NOTES

A floral Fox & Chave crêpe de chine silk scarf featuring a floral design in shades of green after a wallpaper design named 'Pimpernel' by William Morris created in 1876.

The design is one of William Morris’s most famous and enduring textile and wallpaper patterns, with its intricate, repeating motif of the pimpernel flower intertwined with foliage, exemplifying Morris’s love of natural forms and medieval-inspired decoration.

Featured in 'Volume 1', a pattern book containing 25 Morris & Co. patterns from 1862-81, the pattern showcases Morris’s commitment to handcrafted quality and the Arts and Crafts Movement’s ideals, emphasising beauty and functionality.

It became widely popular, remaining in production for over a century coming to represent Morris’s signature style of rich, detailed, nature inspired design, making it a classic in decorative arts history.
