DESIGNER'S NOTES

A distinct Fox & Chave silk tie after the work Mondschein (1919) by the Swiss-German painter Paul Klee (1879-1940).

The work combines elements of abstraction and surrealism to create a dreamlike, nocturnal scene featuring a cityscape bathed in the ethereal light of the moon.

The moon traditionally symbolises mystery, intuition, and the unconscious. It represents the dream world, the feminine, and the cyclical nature of time. The city is depicted with simplified, almost childlike forms of houses and structures, rendered in a way that blends the real and the imagined to represent human civilisation and the structured world of society.

Klee, who had a deep love for music, often incorporated musical principles into his work. The arrangement of forms and colours in Mondschein have a rhythmic, almost musical quality that can symbolise the harmony and rhythm of the universe, the idea that there is a musicality to the natural world and our experiences within it.
