A large Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf with a classic rainbow colour palette.

The rainbow was symbolic in various ancient cultures and religions;

In Norse mythology, the rainbow is seen as the Bifröst, a bridge connecting the realm of the gods (Asgard) with the realm of humans (Midgard). It is depicted as a vibrant, shimmering bridge guarded by the god Heimdall.

In the Hindu tradition, the rainbow is associated with Indra, the god of thunderstorms and rain. Indra uses a rainbow as a bow (Indradhanush) to shoot arrows of lightning. The rainbow symbolises the weapon's power and divine protection.

In Greek mythology the rainbow is personified by Iris, the goddess of the rainbow and a messenger of the gods. Iris serves as a link between the gods and humanity, symbolising communication and the connection between the divine and mortal realms.

In ancient Chinese mythology, the rainbow was often seen as a slit in the sky sealed by the goddess Nüwa. After a great flood, Nüwa repaired the heavens using five coloured stones, and the rainbow is a manifestation of this repair, symbolising harmony and balance.

In the Christian Bible, specifically in the story of Noah's Ark, the rainbow is a sign of God's covenant with humanity. After the flood, God placed a rainbow in the sky as a promise that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood. The rainbow symbolises divine promise, hope, and mercy.
