DESIGNER'S NOTES
This dark blue Fox & Chave silk tie features a repeat pattern of Spitfires.
Designed by Reginald Mitchell, and a team at Supermarine Aviation Works, a British aircraft manufacturer, the Spitfire played a crucial role for the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II, particularly in the Battle of Britain, where it became an iconic symbol of British resistance.
During the Second World war it was also operated by several other Allied air forces, including: The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF), South African Air Force (SAAF), Free French Air Force (Forces Aériennes Françaises Libres), Polish Air Force (Polskie Siły Powietrzne) and the Soviet Air Force (Voyenno-vozdushnye sily)
Post 1945, the Spitfire continued to serve with various air forces around the world, including those of Egypt, Israel, and India.
