DESIGNER'S NOTES
A Fox & Chave silk tie with a simple, graphical depiction of hills and woodland after a design originally titled Helena by the English architect and designer C.F.A Voysey (1857–1941) for Alexander Morton & Co. between 1895 and 1900.
Charles Voysey designed across a wide variety of disciplines, primarily as an architect but also creating furniture, interiors, wallpaper patterns and soft furnishings. In these interior elements he admired the work of William Morris, with his repeat pattern designs in floral styles often featuring animals clearly demonstrating the influence of the arts and crafts pioneer.
Voysey's notable designs for buildings include Spade House, Sandgate, Kent, the home of the writer H. G. Wells (1897); Voysey House, the Sanderson wallpaper factory in Chiswick (1902); and The Orchard, Chorleywood, (1900), which he designed for himself.
