DESIGNER'S NOTES

A delightful Fox & Chave chiffon silk scarf featuring illustrations by John Tenniel from the original publication of the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) by Lewis Carroll.

John Tenniel (1820–1914) was a British illustrator and political cartoonist, best known for his work as the principal cartoonist for Punch magazine, and also created the illustrations for Lewis Carroll's sequel Through the Looking-Glass (1871).

He began his career as a painter but soon gained recognition for his skilful and satirical illustrations. Tenniel's work for Punch, where he contributed for over five decades, captured the political and social landscape of Victorian England with a distinctive style, characterised by precision and wit, he created enduring and impactful visual satire.

He was knighted in 1893 for his contributions to the arts, making him one of the first illustrators to receive such an honour.
