Delaunay Blériot Chiffon Scarf

DESIGNER'S NOTES

An superbly energetic Fox & Chave silk chiffon scarf with elements from the Orphist painting Homage à Blériot (1914) by the French painter Robert Delaunay (1885-1941).

The swirling colourful geometric forms within the painting that Delaunay employs suggest the propellers of Bleriot's aeronautical inventions, including perhaps his pioneering Type XI aircraft, in which he successfully traversed the English Channel in response to a challenge laid down by the UK's Daily Mail newspaper.

These types of multicoloured roundel forms were common in other works by Delaunay such as Le Premier Disque, (1912–1913) and Rhythm (1912).
