A pink Fox & Chave silk tie with a repeat print of jockey silks.

Jockey silks originated in mid-eighteenth-century England when the Jockey Club mandated distinct colours to help race officials and spectators identify horses during competitions. Established owners registered unique, proprietary combinations of patterns and colours to signify their stables.

Devised through strict heraldic rules, each design uses a limited palette and basic geometric elements, such as stripes, diamonds, sashes, and stars, to remain distinct at high speeds from a distance. The patterns are mirrored across the jacket and matching cap. Today, these lightweight nylon or lycra racing shirts combine centuries of equestrian tradition with modern aerodynamic performance on the track.
