DESIGNER'S NOTES
A classy Fox & Chave crêpe de chine silk scarf with a stylised repeat of roses in the unique art nouveau style developed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928).
Mackintosh’s rose design is a prime example of his artistic approach, stylised and abstract, featuring geometric shapes and clean lines. The petals and leaves are depicted in a simplified, almost linear fashion, which aligns with Mackintosh’s tendency to combine organic forms with a modern, geometric sensibility.
It often appeared in his designs as a single, elegant bloom with a somewhat flattened, two-dimensional appearance but also as repeat design for interior use as in this example.
