Bourne depicts a dense network of intertwined stems, leaves, and flowers, with a prominent repeating trio of stylised thistles. The overall pattern is arranged in a flowing, almost river-like composition combining symmetry with organic movement, giving the impression of a living, growing tangle of vegetation.
