DESIGNER'S NOTES

A Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf with a combination design of two patterns from the studio of  William Morris; Compton & Wild Tulips.

The Compton design, at the centre of the scarf in green with coloured blooms, was created by John Henry Dearle in 1895 for Compton Hall, a Manor House near Wolverhampton, at the commission of then owner and Brewery heir, Laurence Hodson.

Featured in a coral variation in this scarf, Morris registered ‘Wild Tulip’, as a wallpaper design on 21st November 1884. It features small wild tulips with ribbons of larger peonies intertwining with scrolling stems.

STYLING

A Fox & Chave habotai silk scarf can be worn with the classic knot style or a pussycat bow. You can even create a shawl effect by knotting two scarves together behind your neck and allowing them to drape over your shoulders. More scarf styling ideas are available in this wonderful How to Tie a Scarf book.
