DESIGNER'S NOTES
A distinct Fox & Chave silk tie with a repeat design after one of a series of similar works of poplar trees by the French impressionist pioneer Claude Monet (1840-1926)
This particular work is simply entitled Poplars (1891), and forms part of a collection of 23 canvases undertaken by Monet in only a few months between the spring and summer of that year.
The series is another undertaken by Monet in similar fashion to his haystacks, views of Rouen Cathedral, Waterlilies and views of the Thames in London to depict a single scene or subject in varying atmospheric and light conditions.
The poplars that form the subject stood on the bank of the river Epte, a right tributary of the Seine, in Seine-Maritime and Eure, in Normandy, France. They were grown for commercial reasons by the landowner intended for lumbar or even to be sent to a matchstick manufacturer, but Monet made an agreement for their felling to be stalled until he could complete his series.
STYLING
