Redon Violette Heymann Silk Habotai Scarf

DESIGNER'S NOTES

An exciting Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf in bright colours from the floral elements of the work Portrait of Violette Heymann (1910) by the French symbolist artist Odilon Redon (1840-1916).

The pastel on paper portrait is from the latter portion of Redon's career when he had moved to using colour after his idiosyncratic early works in charcoal known as 'noirs'. It sees the seated figure of Heymann in profile, a young woman with long hair in Edwardian dress, surrounded by an abstracted, bright floral border.

Portraits of this kind by Redon were often made as commissions by the artist.
