DESIGNER'S NOTES
This classic silver plated pendant featuring a red poppy.
Poppies have long been a potent symbol in art, oscillating between beauty, sleep, and mortality.
Their vivid red petals naturally evoke blood, leading to their association with wartime sacrifice, especially after World War I. Artists such as John Singer Sargent and Paul Nash used poppies to memorialise soldiers, embedding both literal and metaphorical layers of grief and resilience.
In earlier depictions, poppies symbolised sleep, dreams, and the ephemeral quality of life, linking to opium’s sedative properties and classical references. Less often remarked upon is their duality in European folk art, where red poppies also signify fertility and renewal. Across media, the flower’s visual simplicity allows it to carry profound emotional and cultural resonance.
STYLING
The pendant is a few centimetres in diameter with a 450mm chain, so style outside high necklines, or against the skin with lower necklines. Wear with jewellery of similar scale, such as a simple silver bracelet.
