DESIGNER'S NOTES
A colourful Fox & Chave silk tie featuring elements from the oil painting Vase of Tulips and Anemones (c.1875) by Pierre Auguste Renoir (1841–1919)
A luminous still life that demonstrates his mastery of colour and brushwork, the painting captures the vibrancy of fresh blooms arranged casually in a vase, their petals shimmering with light and movement.
Renoir’s still life works were not mere exercises in arrangement but explorations of atmosphere and sensation. He applied rapid, fluid strokes to evoke the fleeting beauty of flowers, much as he did with figures and landscapes. His still lifes influenced later artists by showing that ordinary subjects could embody elegance, sensuality, and vitality.
These works also reinforced Impressionism’s aim of capturing the immediacy of experience, making Renoir’s flower paintings celebrated examples of intimate visual poetry.
