DESIGNER'S NOTES
A Fox & Chave pocket square featuring a repeat print of stags in old gold over a wine red ground.
In ancient Celtic culture, stags were seen as messengers from the otherworld or guides for souls on their journey after death. They were believed to possess a mystical connection to the divine, serving as symbols of spiritual leadership and wisdom. Often linked to Cernunnos, the Celtic horned god of the forest, fertility, and nature. Cernunnos was typically depicted with antlers, merging human and animal traits, and was considered a protector of animals and a guardian of the natural world.
In literature, such as in the plays of William Shakespeare, the stag often appears as a symbol of natural beauty and elusive power. Meanwhile, in folklore, it can represent a bridge between the human and spiritual worlds, embodying a mystical presence that carries deeper meanings of guidance, purity, and the pursuit of inner truth.
