DESIGNER'S NOTES
A floral Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf with a reproduction design of the famous Parchin Kari (Pietra Dura) floral inlays found at the Taj Mahal in Agra, India.
The design replicates the exquisite floral borders found on the cenotaphs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, celebrated because it mixes Persian artistic symmetry with European botanical realism inspired by European herbals brought to the Mughal court in the 17th century.
The flowers are stylised Red Lilies, identified specifically as a Martagon Lily or Crown Imperial Lily and Poppies, the latter a favourite motif of the Mughal emperors with both designed to look like the Carnelian and Jade stone inlays of the Taj Mahal.
