DESIGNER'S NOTES
A vibrant and colourful Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf featuring elements from the painting Irises (1889), by the post-impressionist Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890).
During Van Gogh's time at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum when this work was painted, he developed a deep interest in Japanese woodblock prints, which influenced many of his works during this period. He admired the bold colours, flattened perspectives, and compositional simplicity of the prints, which can be seen in the arrangement of his subjects.
This influence is particularly evident in Irises (1889), where the vibrant colours and dynamic composition echo the aesthetic of Japanese art. Van Gogh was also experimenting with different brushstroke techniques during this time, seeking to capture both the essence and the emotional impact of his subjects.
