DESIGNER'S NOTES
A blue Fox & Chave silk tie with swirling elements from the vibrant work The Starry Night by the dutch post impressionist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890).
van Gogh’s time in the asylum at Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, was one of intense creativity and struggle. Admitted in May 1889 following a breakdown, Van Gogh voluntarily sought refuge at the institution to address his mental health. Despite his confinement, he created nearly 150 paintings, including some of his most iconic works.
His room overlooked the asylum's garden, which became a recurring subject in his art. Works like Starry Night and Irises reflect his emotional state in this period, evidently blending turbulence with beauty.
Although Van Gogh appreciated the stability, isolation weighed on him, and his mental health fluctuated. Letters to his brother Theo reveal his inner turmoil but also his determination to continue working.
