The Golden Age of Locomotive Transport, spanning the late nineteenth and into the early twentieth century, transformed British travel, industry, and culture. Driven by steam technology, while majestic locomotives like the Flying Scotsman gained widespread recognition, the vast majority of transportation was facilitated by smaller, working machines.

Standardised designs, such as the LMS Stanier Black Five and later BR Standard Class 4, worked tirelessly across main lines and rural branches.
