DESIGNER'S NOTES

An oversized Fox & Chave silk habotai wrap featuring a design inspired by Gustav Klimt’s Hope II (1907–08).

Klimt was a leading figure of the Vienna Secession movement, which sought to break away from academic art traditions and embrace a more modern, decorative aesthetic. Deeply influenced by Byzantine mosaics, Japanese prints, and the Arts and Crafts movement, he combined flat planes of colour with intricate, ornamental detail to create richly layered compositions.

His unique fusion of fine art and design continues to influence contemporary visual culture, making his work a lasting source of inspiration for textiles, fashion, and decorative arts.

Pattern played a central role in Klimt’s distinctive visual language, evolving throughout his career to reflect his shifting artistic focus.

Often rich with symbolism, his motifs explored themes of mythology, sensuality, and the cycles of life and death. In his later works, these patterns grew increasingly fragmented and experimental, signalling a deeper move toward abstraction and expressive symbolism.

It can be draped around the neck as a scarf or worn as a shawl over the shoulders providing a bit of warmth on cooler evenings.
