A Baltimore dresser is a high-quality, ornate chest of drawers made in, or associated with Baltimore, Maryland during the late 18th to mid-19th century, especially the Federal period (circa 1780–1820). These dressers are known for their elegant neoclassical style, use of fine woods like mahogany, delicate inlays and decorative veneers and were often bow-fronted or serpentine in shape.

Crafted by skilled cabinetmakers active in Baltimore, which was a major furniture-making hub at the time, they’re now considered antiques and are sought after by collectors for their craftsmanship and historic value.

They were often adorned with ornate coverings known as dresser scarves or runners. These textiles featured intricate embroidery, lace, or crochet work, showcasing needlework skills and adding decorative flair. They protected the wooden surface while highlighting domestic craftsmanship. Patterns ranged from floral motifs to patriotic symbols, reflecting personal taste and regional identity.
