DESIGNER'S NOTES

This classic silver plated pendant featuring a close-up on the 'eye' from a single peacock feather.

The peacock’s “eye” motif, visible in the fanned tail feathers, has held rich symbolic resonance across cultures. In Hinduism, the eye represents divine vigilance and protection, associated with the god Krishna and immortality. In Byzantine and Renaissance art, the motif suggested incorruptibility, linking the bird’s moulting cycles to resurrection and eternal life.

Within Art Nouveau and decorative arts, including the work of designers like Klimt and Lalique, the eye became a symbol of beauty, sensuality, and watchful allure, abstracted into repeating patterns that blend naturalism with ornament.

Less frequently noted is its role in Persian and Ottoman textiles, where the eye’s concentric circles were believed to repel malevolent spirits, merging aesthetic function with talismanic purpose.

STYLING

The pendant is a few centimetres in diameter with a 450mm chain, so style outside high necklines, or against the skin with lower necklines. Wear with jewellery of similar scale, such as a simple silver bracelet.
