DESIGNER'S NOTES
A wonderful bold Fox & Chave silk tie in blues and greens that represent stylised peacock feathers after the work of British ceramicist William De Morgan (1839-1917).
De Morgan's work is abundant with Peacocks and peacock feathers, with their unique eyes often stylised in his work to be exaggerated heart shapes. He used them on designs for tiles, plates and bowls, often combined with other more mythical creatures such as dragons.
He took inspiration from Iznik pottery and rugs which, although from the Bursa province of Western Turkey, he and his mentor William Morris often referred to as 'Persians'. This was also the term De Morgan used for the signature colour palette he developed that included a Persian blue, (ranging from medium ultramarine to dark blue), turquoise, green, vibrant yellow, and a celery green.
