DESIGNER'S NOTES

This classic silver plated bangle features a classic Art Deco ginkgo pattern with a distinctive fan shape rendered in clean, stylised lines.

The Art Deco ginkgo pattern transforms the ancient fan-shaped leaf into stylized, geometric ornamentation emblematic of 1920s and 1930s design. Inspired by East Asian botanical motifs, the ginkgo leaf’s natural symmetry and radiating veins lent themselves to streamlined, repetitive compositions in metalwork, textiles, and ceramics.

Designers emphasised abstraction, flattening curves into bold, graphic shapes that conveyed modernity while retaining organic elegance. The pattern symbolized endurance and longevity, reflecting the ginkgo tree’s resilience over millennia. Less remarked upon is its adaptability across materials and scales, from intricate jewellery to large architectural friezes, making it a quintessential example of Art Deco’s fusion of natural inspiration and modernist aesthetics.

STYLING

The bangle image is a few centimetres in diameter on an open ring. Wear with jewellery of similar scale, such as a simple silver pendant or brooch.
