DESIGNER'S NOTES
This vibrant and exciting Fox & Chave silk bow tie features elements from the work Hommage à Blériot (1914) by the French Orphist Artist Robert Delaunay (1885-1941)
The work is a vibrant celebration of the pioneering aviator Louis Blériot, the first person to fly across the English Channel in 1909, and reflects Delaunay's fascination with modern technology, movement, and the dynamism of the early 20th century.
The painting is an abstract composition that blends elements of Cubism and Orphism, a movement Delaunay helped pioneer, which emphasised the use of colour and light to evoke emotions and a sense of rhythm. Delaunay uses bold, swirling forms and bright, contrasting colours to create a sense of motion and energy, mimicking the experience of flight and the excitement of the birth of aviation.
