A delicate floral Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf featuring elements from the work Willow, Cherry Blossoms, Sparrows and Swallow, (1870s) by Uttagawa Hiroshige III.
Not to be confused with the original artist Hiroshige (1797–1858), Uttagawa Hiroshige III worked in the style of the original Hiroshige and was a student of Hiroshige II, the adopted son-in-law of the original master. To confuse matters a little more when his mentor died, Hiroshige III then married his master's widow.
His work included Meiji-era prints depicting familiar traditional Japanese scenes and motifs but also detailed increasing modernisation, such as railways and Western-style buildings, blending traditional ukiyo-e techniques with contemporary subjects.
