DESIGNER'S NOTES

A bold Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf with elements of the work Schloss und Sonne (1928) by the abstract painter Paul Klee (1879-1940).

Schloss und Sonne or Castle & Sun in English, is a multicoloured and vibrant image in the style Klee developed to depict man-made and sometimes natural forms using simplified geometric grid forms.

Often irregular and subtly abstract, these grids were not rigid or mechanical; instead, they allowed for a playful and intuitive exploration of form. By incorporating shifting colours, geometric shapes, and fragmented lines, Klee evoked both architectural elements like buildings and cityscapes, as well as natural motifs like landscapes, trees, and plants.

In this example the image has a heat created by the use of dominant dark reds, oranges and yellows to describe the interaction between the sun, which rises above the square forms as a glowing hot gold disc, and the metropolis below.

STYLING

A Fox & Chave habotai silk scarf can be worn with the classic knot style or a pussycat bow. You can even create a shawl effect by knotting two scarves together behind your neck and allowing them to drape over your shoulders. More scarf styling ideas are available in this wonderful How to Tie a Scarf book.
