DESIGNER'S NOTES
A modernist Fox & Chave silk tie with a repeat of various chair designs by the Scottish Architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928).
Mackintosh chairs are often distinct for their high backs and minimalist designs in keeping with his architectural style blending Art Nouveau with a distinctive Scottish vernacular, characterised by clean lines, geometric forms, and a subtle use of natural motifs.
Example of his chair designs include:
The Argyle Chair: A high-backed chair with slender vertical slats and an elegant, elongated form, topped with an oval headrest and often featuring geometric and organic motifs.
The Willow Chair: A tall, curving chair with a semi-circular backrest and an intricate lattice pattern, often evoking a sense of fluidity and natural grace.
The Hill House Chair: Perhaps his most recognisable chair design, a minimalist, strikingly tall, grid-like backrest and simple, straight lines, emphasising verticality and elegance.
