DESIGNER'S NOTES

This strong Fox & Chave silk tie has a pattern reminiscent of a tartan, but is actually from a tiny element on a menu designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) for Miss Cranston's Exhibition Café at the Ingram Tea Rooms. That menu features a stylised image of a lady holding a rose, a flower synonymous with the designer and the city of Glasgow.

The tea rooms were a temporary venue created in 1911 as part of the Glasgow Exhibition officially known as the Scottish Exhibition of National History, Art, and Industry.

Considered a 'world's fair' the exhibition was organised to showcase Scotland's contributions to art, industry, and commerce, and was a significant event in the context of Glasgow's development during the early 20th century. The exhibition featured a wide range of exhibits, from advances in manufacturing to fine art displays, and attracted visitors from all over the world.

A Fox & Chave silk tie looks best tied in a classic Windsor or half-Windsor knot and worn with a collar style of your choosing. Cutaway or spread collars offer the greatest opportunity to display the detail of your unique silk tie design.
