DESIGNER'S NOTES
A sublime Fox & Chave silk tie with a wave-like design in deep purple and rose gold, after a watercolour sketch for a textile by the Scottish Architect and interior artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928).
Mackintosh employed meticulous watercolour techniques for his textile designs. These designs often featured stylised elements and abstracted floral motifs, showcasing his distinctive blend of Art Nouveau and Glasgow Style. He used clear, vibrant colours and strong outlines to create bold, repeating patterns.
Mackintosh's technique involved precise application of watercolour washes, sometimes combined with pencil or gouache, to achieve intricate details and subtle tonal variations.
These designs were squared for transfer, indicating their practical application in textile production. His innovative approach contributed significantly to the textile industry of his time.
