MASICORP 'MAMA AFRICA' SILK SQUARE

DESIGNER'S NOTES

A silk square featuring a design by Dutch artist and psychologist Germa Zeijen, a dedicated supporter who donates her designs to aid the non-profit Masicorp.

This particular scarf has a personal connection to the owners and directors of Fox & Chave, Jemima & Paul Haddock...

"In 2024 Paul and I visited the Township of Masiphumelele near Cape Town, in South Africa, and were shown the amazing work of Masicorp, a charity which runs 3 schools for the children of the Township, as well as adult learning programmes. The standard of teaching is incredibly high, with nutritious food, sports and indoor games such as chess, all being part of the charity's programme.

The children regularly win educational prizes competing against all schools in South Africa. It occurred to us that producing a lovely silk scarf would be a great way to honour this work and raise vital funds. The scarf, with its beautiful artwork by Gemma Zeijen, another Masicorp supporter, is our gift to this amazing charity, and all revenue from sales of Mama Africa will be donated to them."

Masicorp addresses this critical need by providing education and skills training to residents, from early childhood development to adult entrepreneurship. Proceeds from this item contribute directly to funding these schools and programs, helping the people of Masi overcome poverty through the power of learning.

The name Masiphumelele translates to 'Let us succeed.'
