DESIGNER'S NOTES
A unique Fox & Chave silk tie featuring a design after the oil painting Hauptweg und Nebenwege (1929) by the Swiss-German expressionist artist Paul Klee (1879-1940).
In the heart of the work, known in English as Highways & Byways, is a bold, straight main path that dominates the canvas. Split into sections, each one a swatch of contrasting colours – from blue to orange, red to green like a winding road, narrowing as it leads us deeper into the work. Like a ‘strip of fields,’ divided 45 times, and stretching up to meet a streaky blue and purple horizon that feels like the sky itself.
On either side, the paths are a chaotic mess, twisting and turning without much direction. Some paths lead to dead ends, while others seem to vanish into that same blue-grey horizon, offering a clear destination for the main route.
