DESIGNER'S NOTES
A marvellous Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf featuring an element from a stained glass window design created in 1893 and typical of the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933).
Peacocks feature prominently in the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer renowned for his contributions to the Art Nouveau movement. Celebrated for his innovative use of stained glass, Tiffany often incorporated peacock motifs into his designs, particularly in lamps, windows, and decorative panels.
The peacock, with its iridescent feathers and vivid colours, symbolised beauty, immortality, and luxury—qualities that resonated with Tiffany’s artistic vision. He used the bird’s striking plumage to explore rich, vibrant colour palettes and intricate patterns, creating pieces that were both visually stunning and symbolically rich.
