DESIGNER'S NOTES
A fine pair of Fox & Chave cufflinks featuring a central American style design.
Aztec textile patterns reflect the sophistication and symbolism of central Mexican cultures before 1521. Woven from cotton and agave fibres, textiles featured bold geometric motifs, repeating diamonds, step-frets, and stylised animals, often arranged in horizontal bands. Colours were derived from natural dyes, with vibrant reds, blues, and yellows conveying status, affiliation, or ritual significance.
Patterns were not purely decorative; they encoded cosmology, social hierarchy, and mythological narratives, linking wearer and community to divine forces. Artisans employed precise weaving techniques to create symmetry and rhythm, producing garments that combined functionality, aesthetic beauty, and cultural identity. These textiles remain vital records of Aztec artistry and worldview.
