The gallop is the fastest gait of a horse, characterised by a four-beat sequence followed by a moment of suspension when all four hooves are off the ground. This gait allows racehorses to achieve incredible speeds, essential for competitive racing.

In a racehorse, the gallop is highly refined for efficiency and speed. Their long, powerful strides maximise ground covered, while their relatively light frames and strong muscles propel them forward. The energy generated is immense, showcasing the culmination of selective breeding and rigorous training.
